I understand discrepancies in builds and playstyle, but it seems like kills minus deaths should be a good indicator of solar gain. While kills matter, controlling map position matters more. In this case Voltar is able to keep his team (including bots) in the fight longer and that can make him the MVP even without directly killing anything. While I agree that his solar gain is a bit extreme and does need to be tweaked there is absolutely nothing wrong with having the support player end up with the most solar. Are you really going to claim that player kills are the most important aspect of Awesomenauts?

I don't disagree, I just thought 11-0 compared with 0-3 was a huge discrepancy in performance, and Voltar being at the top seemed wrong. Maybe if the game was more transparent about how much Solar you're earning for various things, it'd be easier to gauge, much in the way Battlefield 3 seems reasonable for how it awards and scores players based on their various battle-related contributions. It's always possibly Voltar killed a turret or two and 50 more creeps. Who knows.

What's REALLY sad is that a) he doesn't have his healing upgraded AT ALL (+7 is base) and b) his damage is only at level 2 out of 3... He can do MORE damage... Edit: Volar and Leon reach the base at 12:18. The base dies at 12:29. Granted, they are ridiculously high level, but you can reach to that damage output a LOT earlier... Kind of insane. The hing about games like this is that map control is everything. Of course Voltar can take on a tower alone, all of them can if you leave them alone. Every time something like this happens is cuz all 3 players are somewhere else on the map fighting the other 2 while 1 player is being ignore and completly destroying a tower.
yes kills are important, but early on in the game whats important is how much Solar u collect and being aware of whats happening on the mini map at all times so that u can help ur team-mates out and then when the killing start happening thats ur quee too push forward. Shane that most ppl dont understand this and think most char are broken/op when they probably are not. I m not saying the game its perfectly balance but most of the things ppl complain about can be deal with u are aware of the mini-map and know whats important in this game.
Sorry about my grammar. English is not my first language..

After playing 3-4 games yesterday I did notice that I lost every game, an every winning team had a voltor player on it.
It was Voltor , Lonestar, and a bot that was Leon.
against us 3 humans.
We got slaughtered. Everytime they would go for top turret, I would stop them only for them to drop right down and go for the lower. And since they had Voltor they didn't have to retreat back as much and could continue to peg the turrets. And if any one of us died it gave them a huge advantage.
I tried countering by attacking their turret, we managed to take one out, but every time I tried they were right there within 3-4 seconds to stop my attack and I would have to retreat and they would imediately go for other turret.
I've come to the conclusion that as of right now, there is no way to " Out-skill" a good Voltor player. So I'm hoping the new characters will counter him a bit and even thinks back out.
I used to hate leon but I'm ok with him even though he still annoys me.

If they stop your attack with the whole team within 3-4 seconds, it means they're working together. If you jumped on Voltar with one or even both of your team mates, you'll most likely kill him if your timing is good enough. Early game he's very squishy and easy to kill.

Read about halfway through the thread, and I'm seeing a lot of discussion that doesn't consider game development. While characters like Leon, Voltar and Froggy G becomes very strong late game, they are pretty bad early on.
I've played through a full 1-45 cycle as mostly Lonestar (taking Clunk when Lonestar is unavailable) and I've very consistently outlevelled people with these characters. The early-game potential just allows you to build a quick advantage and end the game before the opposing force grows too strong. It's a gamble, but it's just as much of a gamble as it is picking the better developing characters and hoping you'll get an easy pass.
As far as balance goes, I think the most obvious (but probably also not that big of an issue) is the piggy bank. I don't see a reason why anyone would ever play without it, but then again it's part of the joy of the progression too.
If anything (I don't know if it's intended or not) there seems to be an issue with the splash dash stun and tounge grab that sometimes cancel out abilities. Several times when I've been charging a dynamite and getting CCd by these I would get the CD trigger but never actually throw any dynamites, which sorta breaks the game as you get completely neutralized.

Well, there's a clear imbalance if the opposing team has a Voltar. And in comparisons you should always assume that the people playing are on equal footing (skill).
If you assume that the teams are equally skilled, the Voltar team is certainly better off by default. For the very reasons that user pointed out. You don't have to return to base to heal, you don't have to go off to the neutral zones to kill neutral creeps for health, and you don't have to search for HP orbs either.
You can keep together and move as a self-healing unit. Without a healer in a unit, then it's easily broken apart by the necessity of healing. Leaving you at a clear disadvantage, no matter how you slice it.
Yuri's heal is okay, and most characters have upgrades to their base attack and/or skills to regen health or absorb health. But not everyone does, and none of these are as useful as a Voltar's heal stream and healbot.
Enter a combination of characters on the non-Voltar team who has few HP regen/absorb options, vs a combination of characters on the Voltar team with tons of HP abilities to help the unit... and there is an imbalance. There's no way to ignore that fact.
It's just an unfortunate thing, that can't be avoided. Unless the start to determine stats based on team, which sounds impossible. xP But people shouldn't site skill as the issue, when there clearly is an advantage to any team with a Voltar. Again, you have to assume skill levels are the same, otherwise it's not a comparison.
@Ares42; Funny that when ever someone says this, it's never actually true.

I'll gladly admit that neither Clunk nor Lonestar is great against players early on (or ever actually). All you're trying to do is zone and snipe bots. With the 50 aoe dynamites off the bat you can deny the killer-chars pretty good (as they don't really have the tools to run you down early) while levelling up easy. Trying to farm bots as either Leon or Froggy just makes you a sitting duck for a surprise bite or dynamite. digitallimit wrote: 2) In addition, he earns way too much Solar compared to everyone else. I mean, watch your own developer commentary feature ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_TPQkIYOow) wherein I noticed at one point Froggy G and Lonestar--who, mind you, have been active and productive participants in this match up to this point--are at level 11 while Voltar is at an unseemly level 19. That's ridiculous. The key to dealing with Voltar is just to deny him bots. Have a strong character that can one-shot bots and you can starve him while levelling up easy yourself. It's one of the great things about Lonestar, even at the start of the game you can lock down all the bots on both (if there are) lanes before they really take any damage.

Like you said assuming both teams are on the same skill level i dont agree that team with voltar will be better of. Yes it has its advantages but at the same time he dies so fast early on. From the top of my head just a few ideas that i have done and seen ppl do to deal with him early on. Just sneak behind him with any char and he will die in a flash and if his team-mates attack you than your team-mates can deal with the other 2. Other thing is that most ppl when they see someone using voltar instead of trying to deal with him and sneak around the other team they will try to fight them off and thats just never going to work. Like i said u need to get behind them and try to deal with him first. And am sure lots of other ppl have other ideas on how to deal with him early on. I just dont see him as a big deal in this game. Just like most moba games there are char that are better at taken down other char and so on. But what it comes down to is who has the better team-work at the end of the day. my 2 cents. Sorry about the english.

^Suppose it depends on where (time wise) the game is in. Should have thought about that one more.
