Some people have been asking how to set up their NAT to get NAT type Open/Type 1. Setting up this correctly will allow you to play with more players and usually give you less network errors. Here is a small guide to help you get this done.

Check your internet connection status on your console:
PS3: Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test
When finished, a summary of the results will be displayed. Including UPnP and Nat Type.
Type 1: Properly connected directly to the Internet.
Type 2: Properly connected to the Internet via a router.
Type 3: Poorly connected to the Internet via a router.

Xbox360: Settings > System Settings > Network Settings > Wired Network or Wireless Network > Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
If you do not get a NAT error, you NAT Type is at least moderate. Moderate is okay but when the NAT type is Open the game performs better online.

Fix your NAT Type
solution 1: Restart your modem/router/console
solution 2: Turn on Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) on your router
solution 3: Open/forward ports to the ip address of your console
Playstation 3:
game port: UDP: 3658
psn ports: TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.
Xbox360:
ports: TCP: 53, 80, 3074 and UDP: 53, 88, 3074

Some useful links with more info:

This Xbox support page can help you with the solutions described above. For PS3 players it is also very useful. But remember to use the PS3 ports when forwaring the ports

Some PS3 information about the Internet connection test

This looks awesome! I personally have no problems with the NAT or matchmaking, but I have had A LOT of troubles with other games, so I know how frustrating this problem is.
I love how you're so well connected to your community and is trying to help. Keep up the good work, Ronimo! :)

Just to add if you ring up your ISP they will open all the ports for you.

If you still have problems ring them up again and tell them what game its for.

Has this worked for anyone who was previously having d/c problems? I'd rather not mess with my router settings just for this one game, since I can play any other game on PSN fine, but I will if I have to.

You can also visit the site http://www.Portforward.com. This site has guides how to setup port forwarding for just about any router manufactured. The PortChecker tool doesn't seem to work at least on x64 Win 7, just a heads up.

Also, are there any specific ports Awesomenauts uses? Or any advanced options that can be applied to ensure the best connection possible?

No offense but, I haven't had to port forward any of my other games and they seem to work just fine through my router and not drop me 1/2 the time out of games...Just sayin'.

Yeah..I agree. Why should I have to open ports on my router when every other game is working fine?

It's a suggested fix for players who experience issues, which is a minority.

Personally I didn't change any of my router settings and my awesomenauts works fine. If yours doesn't this may be a way to fix it - that's all.

It's not like this is a necessity to play the game, just a suggestion if you are having problems.
