 Post subject: Mini Map Character Icons

It would be convenient if the mini map showed a small icon with a character portrait instead of a larger red or blue dot for your allies. It's simply a positioning identifier. I do not see anything wrong by including enemy character portraits as well as long as fog of war mechanics are maintained in their current state.

So far, the only way I can discern who is who on the map is Voltar because of his flying drones and Yuri because he is obviously the only one floating in the sky.

Would anyone else enjoy the knowing which ally is where on the mini map?

Not a bad idea. I just wish the minimap was more consistent, it's occasionally missing things (including players on my team).

The reason players are sometimes missing is that the areas up until the shop are not mapped.

I really like the idea of small character icons on the minimap :)

Enemies are only shown when someone in your team can see them. So there is a fog-of-war going on on the minimap. There is a subtle glow around each character on the minimap to show how far he can see. And as Slaeden-Bob said, your own teammates are only missing when they are outside the combat area in the drop-zone area. So the minimap is actually totally consistent and exactly as we intended it to be.

I am aware of how fog of war mechanics work and that is not what I am arguing.

Let's take a quick scenario:

I am playing Yuri (support) and just purchased some upgrades at the core. I have to decide where I will go to on the map and my team is split pushing two different lanes on Ribbit IV. If I do not have direct voice chat with my teammates I do not know which of my teammates is in which lane and therefore I cannot readily decide which ally I want to support.

And now I will present to you a bigger problem with the current minimap set up.

I am playing Yuri, I just purchased upgrades and two different opponents show up in separate lanes to respond to my allies who are split pushing and I have to decide which lane to assist. I still don't know which of my allies is in what lane. And I do not know which opponent showed up in those same lanes either. It is quite possible one of those lanes does need my help more than the other and if I pick the wrong lane to assist then I made a severe strategic error.

I'm not asking for permanent icon representation of the enemy. Like I said I know how fog of war works and I know the enemy has to be in "vision" of an ally to know their position on the minimap. I love fog of war mechanics, but that is NOT what this discussion is about. The discussion is WHICH ENEMY IS IT? Why is that a bad thing to know which enemy is in the lane?

Joost. WHICH ENEMY IS IT?

It's all situational and I have a problem with not being able to decide which action to take because I do not have all the information I need.

I know, that reply of mine was only in reply to Bront20's remark about inconsistency. I understand why seeing which character it is would be useful for tactics. :) It would be difficult to visualise in those extremely small icons, though, but I guess it should be possible to do so.

doesn't even need to be a picture of the character necessarily, like lonestar's picture could be a stick of dynamite or a sheriff badge, something like that.

Simply here to bump because I 100% agree. Plus this means that parties get that much of an advantage online because they'll be able to talk to each other to identify.

I so support this, it's brilliant! I don't mind if the icons are a bit larger than the current dots. You should also make the super droids stand out on the map.

Another idea that might be good is to show which health items are available. The map currently only shows where they are located, not weather they have been picked up or not. Use fog of war for them as well, like with the creeps.
