This patch is now in beta. It is available for everyone and does not require beta access. It contains no new features, only these optimisations. If all goes well it can go live somewhere next week.

THIS VERSION CANNOT CONNECT WITH NORMAL VERSIONS OF THE GAME, SO PUBLIC MATCHES WILL BE EMPTY! PLAY ONLY CUSTOM GAMES!

Patch 2.5.4
25-7-2014

-Massively reduced bandwidth and packet count used by the game. The exact results vary depending on the gameplay situation: the less opponents are in view, the stronger the effect. Bandwidth has been reduced by between 35% and 50%. Packet count has been reduced by between 20% and 65%.

I am very interested to know what you actually changed :chew: maybe that can be for a dev blog? :chew:

I shall likely be doing some tests, although I must ask: why do you have in giant text "CAREFUL"?

Nobunaga is finally getting his own game.

I actually thought our Nobunaga is involved in this.

No, it's just like any other beta. The reason:

Because then we need to make a new build next week. Now we can just switch this one from beta to main if it is good. Saves time and decreases the risk of making mistakes during the build process itself.

So uh, I would like to play it - although I'm not entirely sure what to look for or test o.O
If you play with friends that do not lagg for one-another, should there be any difference?

Nope, should be the same. You should basically just test whether the game still works fine for you, that's all. It's a big optimisation that we did and we need to know whether we didn't break something along the way.

From what I can gather it checks your bandwidth output and tunes the frequency of game updates to match the output. Every 10Kb/s of upload gives you 30 updates/s. Might be wrong on that, I'm not analyzing the code to double check. (I'm not that good of a reverser)

edit: To clarify, this is only one of the changes, this is what I can see for strings inside the exe file.

After playing with someone who normally is 300 ping away(because ping is a unit of distance measurement), they only had 260 ping.

Nope. We did improve that part in patch 2.5.3, but this patch has a very different nature: characters that are far away from you receive send/receive less updates. No need telling another player 30 times per second where you are if you are on the other side of the map.
