Hello there, new to these forums and just played the game today.
I am a traditional games designer, mostly board games but we've been looking at doing a card game for a while. It is extremely tempting to give an S&S card game a proper try if Ronimo are up for it... I'll come up with some stuff anyway. Wouldn't be a TCG, the number of different units are too limited for you to be able to make enough different cards for that, added to the fact that making a TCG is prohibitively expensive. What *could* be feasible though is a non-tradeable card game with 3 different decks, one for each faction. And using someone elses mechanics just wouldn't work, this game has its own style and needs a game to match.
Excellent game by the way! Can't stop playing it.

Excellent game by the way! Can't stop playing it. I was thinking more along the lines of using an online program like Lackey CCG. Basically it's a program you can use to play all sorts of card games online, as well as having the ability to make your own. As for the making of a real card game, well that'd be up to Ronimo.

I still think the main problem with a CCG, online or not, is simply the small number of cards you could possibly have. There just wouldn't be enough unless you wanted to start making up characters and stuff for the units. Which would involve a drastic change in style. Its all about the endless minions You could have a set beginning hand, with cards showing the technologies you can build at the moment. You would reveal one of those to take a card from the appropriate unit pile and put it into a battle queue of some kind. Or if its a spell you would use it and place it in front of you until it regenerates somehow. Worker cards would generate gold each turn. Main problem I'm trying to think about at the moment is how you would mark gold and mana without using counters (which would destroy portability). Possibly some kind of cardboard dial thing. But that would be awkward and probably expensive to produce. And feels a little naff. I'd rather have it built into the system somehow. Unless you actually have gold and mana cards which you take when you generate gold and mana. But I can see that needing a lot of cards then, and ideally we want to keep it to about 50 cards in a deck.

To keep track of mana and gold, why not scale everything back by ten? Make Viking Beserkers cost 5 instead of 50, and than you could keep track of gold pretty well with a d20. I mean, the slower pace of a card game means that it's unlikely that you'll have like 1400 gold or twenty units out at once. When I saw this topic, here's the framework that instantly sprung to mind: Initial starting gold of 20 or so. Initial mana of say, 10. Mana refreshes at a rate of 3 or so a turn automatically. Card types: Gatherers: Add an additional 3 gold a turn to the stockpile. Spells: One shot effects costing mana. (Obviously) Towers: Permanent fixtures that provide a static effect. Probably a defensive bonus for Viking units, an offensive bonus/extra damage for Aztec units, and increased mana refresh rate for Chinese. Units: Heeeere we go. Okay, I'm brainstorming four attributes; health, attack, location, and effect. Health and attack should be fairly self explanatory. Location divides your battlefield into three zones: front lines, midfield, and back. Again, using the Vikings as an example, Beserkers have to sit on the front lines, but have high attack and health. Axe throwers are midfield, have lower attack and health, but can attack from afar. Moving to the Aztecs, Necromancers would be back line, have next to no attack and low health, but have an effect of being able to create Skeleton Tokens on the front lines.
To represent the "constantly moving" feel of S&S, every unit has to enter combat every turn, starting with the front lines. If both sides have two Beserkers and an Axe Thrower, than the Beserkers on each side deal damage, and the Axe Thrower from each side deals damage, but takes none, being protected. However, if one side has no front line units, than the midfield becomes the new front line, opening up the more fragile midfielders to attack.
Now, this is a pretty standard TCG. If anyone has ideas to better express the "moving across the battlefield" thing that doesn't feel clunky or weird, I think that the rough framework here is lacking in that area.
As for the limited number of cards, well, maybe forgoe the booster pack model altogether, package it as three precons, but make sure to include enough extras of each card that each person can tweak their army to suit their needs.

Nice cards, would be cool if this idea took off although I must say I haven't played a card game in ages. I think Yu-Gi-Oh was the last one.

The complete game set will be finished soon (in two days, think so). I'll try to write english rules but it will be difficult for me. Of course, I'll post all the cards on this topic and everybody will be allowed to plat with it, creating his own deck or using one I will build. Here some new cards ! Chinese's stuff coming !! http://www.noelshack.com/up/aaa/viking04-catapult035273.jpghttp://www.noelshack.com/up/aaa/chinois01-footsoldier064361.jpgPlease tell me if there are some mistakes on the cards. I don't speak english very well, so...
