I really hope it becomes on the levels of esport one day. This will guarantee Awesomenauts continued support, and instead of having 10 free heroes we would have 50 (if not more) new heroes over the years. Would love to see Ronimo becoming huge with lots of money and a massive fan base, I just hope that if that day comes the quality/pricing of their games wont change.

It's possible for it to become an esport, but it'll have to gain a lot more popularity to do so. Perhaps Ronimo could draw more attention by announcing the Gnaw patch on the steam frontpage?

It all depends on how Ronimo treats this game. Will Gnaw be the last content patch we see in a long time ? Or will we see a new Naut each month ?
Content is king, if Ronimo proves that they will keep Awesomenauts ever evolving then we will gain a massive player base and the possibilities of esport status is very possible.
However if Awesomenauts Steam is simply a PC port on a "casual, fun, team game" and Ronimo have no expectations to supply content in the long run then its player base will never grow larger then what it is now.
So besides asking the community, the people you need to be asking is Ronimo themselves.
~~~~~~
BTW most MOBA are horrible esports. There are so many inherent rules and deeper meta that a stranger to the game wouldn't know. Thats why Starcraft is so successful esport, even the most novice of novices can enjoy watching it. I feel that out of all the MOBA that exist, Awesomenauts have the most potential at getting novices to watch like starcraft does. But as I stated it requires a lot of support from Ronimo and a sufficient player base to get to that point.
~~~~~~
Also another problem I see is almost all balance changes that occur happens at a pug, and novice (casual) level. Competitive level games are incredible unbalanced and stale currently. And it seems very unlikely that Ronimo will do anything about it soon due to the fact that with current match making system you dont have competetive modes. Having two perpared premades face off is extremely rare.

I think it's too early to ask this game to be considered an e-sport on the basis Awesomenauts was not originally designed to become one. If longevity and interest remains then it's possible.
I mean a lot of games turned into e-sports due to their popularity:
ESEA League has Team Fortress 2. Major League Gaming has Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Cyber Evolution has Left 4 Dead.
I'd not be shocked if DayZ becomes one.
Is Awesomenauts capable of holding its audience just as these games do? Time will tell.
Hell if Minecraft had a competitive environment revolved around building bases, taking resources, and killing people, it'd be an e-sport tomorrow.
Then again how long did it take LoL to become one or was it their intent from the beginning? We're still establishing player-base, let alone the top-tier among the players.
Then there's the dilemma of cross-platform services: do players have to use the same controllers? I mean if it's fair both have to use the same kind of controller right? Maybe I'm naive and such things aren't a concern.

Do e-sports utilize a rotation system to award one player among others? What I mean is say you have a tournament and the idea is to have one winner rather than teams though a team tournament is easier to set up and such.
Say out of 6 players only 1 can win so the idea to for people to rotate on which team they are on until they have had matches with everyone on certain teams. Whoever has the most wins out of the various teams they were on is the one who truly deserves to be considered the best.
I say this only because right now it's obvious certain teams have bigger advantages than other teams and so the best 'team' will just be beating mirror-matches more often than not...which is Final Destination all over again (and this is lame).

How good is the network on PC? I see plenty of connectivity problems in the tech forum so I assume it's as lousy as it is for console. That alone will stop it from being a fruitful Esport.

Yes the game has potienal of becomming an e-Sports.
As for people shouting at others... I am guilty of doing that.
I do feel like being killed by a crit leon sucks. As far for fun/competition. Why not put a boundry on it?
Smash has it.. sorta. TF2 defintly has it.
So if the game grows.. why not do that?

That alone will stop it from being a fruitful Esport. 200 games and I have lost connection once. I'd say that is fair for an online game. I am also behind a troublesome netgear router that typically makes matchmaking and hosting anything a pain, but by simply following the directions Romino gives towards UPnP or Port Forwarding, I have had no problems to speak of.

I think the game certainly needs lots more content and we know Ronimo are going to be adding more characters and maps but for how long? What worries me is I think I saw a post somewhere saying Ronimo will add a few more things before moving on to their next game. Another game already?

Technically, as far as I have read, Ronimo hasn't promised anything. They could simply disappear one day, leaving us with what we have in Awesomenauts, with no further balance changes or updates. Everything they are giving us is out of the goodness of their hearts, as they haven't charged yet.
