been there done that. tournament scene player retention isn't dependent on getting people into that skill area of the top teams. it's about making the road to being a top team attractive. when the only prizes are in 1st/2nd place, then the journey there isn't fulfilling in itself.

make soloq fun again.

1. bring back late joins
2. make team xp fun and not just a snowball device
3. stop making nauts with no weaknesses
4. make it so that queueing with casual friends is actually fun.

tournaments aren't going to magically bump the ccu 1000+ players. tournments are just going to give niki a steady $100 every 3 months

I made a topic about what I'm going to say, but I feel what nauts needs is an actual competitive mode. Something that is not quick play and ranked both at the same time. I'll use myself as an example as someone who has 1300+ hours in the game.

I don't want to play quick play. If there was an actual ranked mode, I would play only that mode and I'd actually want to play nauts more than I do now. Right now I really only want to play between 1-3 matches then I'm done. If there was a ranked mode, I'd play much more.

And before anyone says it, I really don't care if it "splits up the queues".

No they don't, but if its a sponsored event people see it advertised from different areas and then it might bring in a new competitive group of players. Also niki isn't 100% going to win everything. Sure his team does have arguably three best competitive players on it but that doesn't stop him from being outdrafted and losing matches.

As far as Ronimo supporting their own tournaments, they did when they got sponsored or supported by Dell in the Alienware Cup some years ago. My guess is the payoff or lack of spectators is what led to a lack of followup from other companies due to its very small audience.
