I just downloaded the student version of 3DS max last night to make my own proun tracks, it seems fairly easy to do, but with my original installation I get the same error as the guy in this thread here. People said making tracks worked by moving the installation to a new folder such as C:\proun\. I havent tried exporting a track since the new installation, but I HAVE lost my ghost data...

I managed to use system restore to get my original installation back in place and the ghost data works again, however I can't back the files up as my ghost data is invisible! (ghostly right?) I know it should be in the tracks own folder with a name like ghost_time_name or similar, all the AI data is there but mine isnt! except on the extrude custom track. and yet my highscores and ghost data and progess works in game. But a direct copy of this folder to C:\proun\ loses all progress and ghost data again... so where in the world does it store it so I can transfer my progress and be able to (hopefully) make a track or two?

Thanks in advance =]

Yes, Windows 7...

Windows 7 has this weird system that programs are not allowed to write to the Program Files folder. If they do, it writes the files to a weird virtual folder somewhere in your account folders. The ghosts are very probably there. I can't remember where that folder was, though, and I don't have Windows 7 where I am now, but maybe you can do a search on your entire C disc for something like "ghost*.dat"?

haha a legend speaks to me!

lol but yeah I can understand, kind of wierd and annoying, I did an entire search before posting, but did another with the asterisk wildcard as you suggested and still cant find it, literally 3 with my name in for the custom track and only AI ones for all the others. I have hidden files and folders on and stuff (at least i usually do, might have turne it off for some reason) so no idea where it could have gone but I dont wanna loose my progress thus far. It's not hugely awesome but would be nice to compare future times with my very first times yknow...

again thanks, and will keep looking and hope someone can help =]

Last time I checked I wasn't a legend yet... Waiting for some heroic stories of me freeing princesses now! ;)

I did some searching, seems like what I am talking about is called Virtual Storage. The standard place for it seems here:

C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore

You should find a Proun folder there, I think.

gonna have to see if this forum has a quick reply feature...

anyway, awesome, thanks, this actually worked. Dont know why windows 7's search function doesnt check in the appdata folder, thats actually WHY I have hidden files and folders shown, because a bunch of junk needs accessing in there for some reason or another, wish it would at least be open about WHAT it puts in there >< lol ohwell.

I guess if I call myself a princess, I can imbue you with legend status, my hero! :P

now to go make some tracks! hopefully... not that I'm promising anything of quality, but I'm not terrible with valves hammer editor which is just boxes, models and other entities, and this is just a curvy line and some primitives, how hard can it be right?! though whether it's your level skills or the game engine, your tracks are GORGEOUS. not a fan of modern art and the things that inspired your art direction, but in a super high DOF and high lightmap resolution 3D interactive environment, it is really amazing! The thing that daunts me most I think is the texturing, does exporting the track also export material data, as in not like a bitmap image texture or anything but just the simple texture where you choose the colour, or do i need to choose the colour and apply it as a bitmap sample over the objects? Dont' want it coming out grey... guess I'll find out soon...

god I ramble, wasn't even finished but I'll spare you here lol, off to make a track =D
