Why do Spam Bots come here and post,
in Russian. :drone:

I get the general concept of Spam Bots: Post an advertisement and hopefully someone will view it before it's deleted.
But why in Russian? This forum consists of primarily English users. No offense to the Russian users on this forum. Posting links in Russian seems redundant to me.

I'm sure there are other forums out there with Russian users who can actually read the spam. Wouldn't it be better to send the bots there, and try to put bots posting in English here?

I don't think spam bots really care about where they post their stuff.

The last one even decided to try to post links in HTML (with <a href> tags as opposed to BBCode [url] tags), which I found fairly hilarious.

And this is probably true as well.
This is worth reading too.

Yeah I saw that one too. Another one in Russian, at that. :chucho:

But I mean, their owners must, right?
Surely there's some optimization options to make the spam "better"?

I mean, having more spam in more places just means that more people know about it, and inform other forums/wikis/whatever to be wary of it.
It just makes more sense to me personally to spam it when people can understand it. :yoolip:

Work harder, not smarter. You send the bot everywhere, someone's gonna click it.

Making a bot that spams stupid drivel is very cheap.
You can spam thousands of forums automatically, for a very low price.

As long as just a single person falls for it, they might make a win already.

At least that's what I think.

Often it's not about people 'falling for it' but instead about the search engine ranking and all the scummy tactics people pull off to gain priority in search engines for their website. This is mentioned in the link Maks posted.

spam bots are actually spamming programs, they are designed in a way to post same thing for multiple times in the forum, it could be of any language like russian, english chinese etc.
