Didnt know about that. I mean, many cultures machos loathe upon it, but actually being a -crime- set it law sounds quite harsh.

Some countries are, unfortunately, violently opposed to it. I'm sure you've heard the horror stories of those concentration camps in Russia. :ixsad:

Yeaaah

Poland, Ukraine, Russia and basically most of european countries around us just don't treat non-hetero people well. Over the years I've heard of and seen a lot of discrimination, including people beaten up, expelled from school or being forced to go to a therapy just because they might prefer Bratwurst for dinner.

Yes, there's a therapy for people that are gay... and yes, it's purpose is to "set them straight". People don't talk about it often, I wonder why.

I've heard of that. Conversion therapy is a horrible, horrible thing.

In the end, it causes far more harm than good. Numerous people's lives have been ruined by it.

Indeed, a very grim topic to say the least...

Also I honestly didn't know Australia didn't have this law yet. Then again we only recently got this in Britain so I shouldn't be surprised.

The world is making progress. Slow, perhaps, but progress all the same. :ayla:

Well... I wont be quoting you there. One step forward at something, two step backwards at something else... But I wont be going further with that, lets just say I dont think world is better place now than ever before.

It fluctuates, I'll give you that, but the general trend over the many years of humanity is upward, even if some things bring it down a bit.

Unfortunately, this behaviour is the status-quo in most eastern-european countries. Decades of brainwashing and opression due to fascist/totalitarian regimes can do that and it takes quite some time in order to move on and adapt to a newer time and update peoples' mindsets. Fortunately, i live in Portugal and i believe we're now campaigning for homosexual couples to be able to adopt children (either that or it's already possible, not entirely sure).

Having said that, we've recently had a case where a woman filed for domestic violence/abuse after cheating her husband. The judge actually agreed with the husband claiming that "such acts are immoral and threaten a man's sense of pride"... but wait, there's more. This judge also quoted the Bible AND also brought up other cultures where women are stoned to death for such acts... yup, a JUDGE of all people thought this was ok.

Just goes to show there are people with messed up mindsets everywhere.

Yeah. Sadly, the world has a ways to go when it comes to this sort of thing. But hey, progress is progress, and Australia voting 'YES' is a step forward.
