Yeah I played with a friend the other day. He'd played once or twice before, but he had to go through the whole damn tutorial first which cut substantially into our gaming time. I couldn't believe it was unskippable, which is such astonishingly bad design.

If you want to discourage newbies from skipping the tutorial, literally do that: add a parenthetical "not recommended" to the skip option and/or a "are you sure?" dialog after the skip button is pressed. Don't remove the button altogether, jesus

I get the impression you guys are really lazy programmers. There have been so many bugs and bad features like this in the game that would take 10 min to fix, but you just leave them in for years and allow them to degrade the gaming experience. Pretty frustrating when I introduce this game to people and have to apologize for stuff like this. "Alright, pls just ignore these glaring errors and bugs in the game, I swear it's good" is a tough sell, and it makes me feel foolish for playing it sometimes.

"Let's not make our game easy to learn through playing alone. Let's put so many unnecessary new rules and systems in our game that it is now suddenly mandatory to have a 30 minute tutorial, not optional..."

By the way, the new tutorial isn't just annoying because it's mandatory, it's horrific as a game tutorial itself. Good tutorials don't have to tell you how to play the game (much less in a purposefully annoying robot voice). It's much better to learn a game through playing and discovering it yourself, rather than through a book or somebody telling you how to do it. They should optimally give you a space to move around and where you can learn the game through trying and exploring the controls and the rules, just trying to accomplish simple objectives yourself.

Needless to say, I liked the old simpler tutorial that wasn't mandatory with the accompanying simpler to learn game much better.

Remember, a tutorial shouldn't teach you everything. It should just let you get into the game, after which you can continue to learn yourself. The old tutorial already did this well before the XP-System. It was only after they introduced the XP-System into the game for no real benefit, did they suddenly need a much more extensive, complicated and mandatory tutorial. It's sadly a good example of bad decisions leading to more bad decisions etc. etc...

I thought the general consensus was that the old tutorial helped no one aside from those that had literally never platformed in their life.

It was about as barebones as they come.

Why not have a Dark Souls kind of tutorial? You're put straightaway against L1 premades, you either git gud or die trying. It doesn't hold your hand and cuts right to the chase, it's the perfect system.
