Okay but jokes aside why is there still literally no use for Awesomepoints for veteran players? You gave all of us a Fort Knox worth of AP just so we can sit on it like a melancholic Scrooge McDuck.
Ronimo pretty much lifted everything directly from Corpit's "A reason to play: Awesomepoints" thread except for the two first points of custom particles and golden weapons.

Especially with the particle editor the community has been shown how easy it would be to add simple particles around an existing ability. We also have abilities that generate particles around the player when used like ESC Rocco (music notes appear around him when using Vengeance and around a Vengeance precision shot) as Pimpy G (tornado makes diamonds appear when hitting an enemy.)

These mechanics are already in the game! Why can't you just make this feature unlockable with Awesomepoints?! :table: Would it really be that hard to just recolor the weapons yellow and give it a sparkle effect?

Things like that are completely doable and unlockable. But with currencies slightly more worth than Awesomepoints. Like, money. :thumb:

All recently asked addons and cosmetic changes like goldenguns or medals could be transformed into a single request:
Ronimo, just give us Awesomenauts opensource version and leave. We'll make it awesome ourselves. :lolstar:

The engine simply does not support golden weapons unless you hack it in really badly. Like you could just cram the golden weapon sprite into every sprite sheet and switch graphics when equipped but for melees you'll be doubling sprite sheet sizes as they do not use the weapon system. I expect a lot of bugs from it too as it will need to use the upgrade system to function like that. Attaching to every animation effect @GoldWepUpgrade&OtherState will be very messy. Alternatively it could just be an extra skin on the skin menu but no gold weapons on skins makes their appeal limited to only skinless players. I could use them as skins for my alt I guess???

Particles are more feasible but would still require new code. I'm down for this idea more as it's simpler to implement but also more expressive than (IMO) tacky bling that floods sprite sheets.

It's messy, but I think Ronimo could just make a golden weapon version of each skin and have it selectable from a drop-down menu when you select your skin. It would probably make Awesomenaut's file size bigger, but "doubling" the total skin count wouldn't be too damaging, especially considering that some 'nauts barely have any skins.
As for particles well... you bring up a good point. I don't think my "second skin" idea would work for all the variations for particle effects. New code could obviously be written, but knowing Ronimo they'll stick to the cheaper concept.

Golden teleport animations and particles, unlockable on a per-'Naut basis once some difficult milestone is achieved—shows commitment with a specific 'Naut, you know.

Golden death animations and particles, complete with various unlockable effects (confetti, money, a tombstone, etc.).

Unlockable kill counters that trigger each time you kill someone (for added irritation, call it a "Salt Meter") for a brief period.

Kill stream counters unlocked on a per-'Naut basis—covered naturally in liquid gold.
