 Post subject: Awesomenauts has a branding problem [IMPORTANT] [MUST READ]

Here's why:

1. "Awesomenauts" is a silly name. It's not a "cool" name like "League of Legends" (easily abbreviated to LoL), "DOTA", "Heroes of the Storm", or "Smite".

2. The game's cartoony aesthetic doesn't really advertise it well as a high-skill fast-paced MOBA. It looks like a fun platformer game, not an intense 2D action strategy game.

3. Possible confusion with Pscyhonauts and Scribblenauts for viewers in the steam store

4. Awesomenauts is awkward and embarrassing to say. Do you really want to tell your friends that you play, uh, "Awesomenauts"? Would you rather say:

"Heys brahs, let's play some DOTA, gonna be TIGHT"
or
"Um, hi guys, m-may we play a few matches of... um, awesomenauts? *voice cracks*"

This is hurting the growth of the game. Opine?

Well you can't do much about the aesthetic at this stage.

Other than that, I definitely agree. But I think it's more of a problem with people and society than the game. So what if you play a goofy platformer with a ridiculous name? That's the whole point! That's how the game was marketed in many ways, to be this over-the-top, '80s cartoon-styled 2D MOBA that wasn't anything like the other games of its genre on the market.

But on the topic: yeah, every time I'm saying to someone that isn't playing this game "I paly Awesomenauts" I feel dumb af. Those all are problems but it can't be solved in any way so this thread seems pointless to me.

I don't feel dumb saying Awesomenauts at all. Yeah, the word "awesome" is a little overused, but it's not that bad. Not like it's called Epicnauts or 420NoScopeNauts.

But... it is closer to the first thing than the second thing. :huh:

I started playing because it was a 2D platformer, not because it was a MOBA. No one who plays LoL or DOTA is going to be interested in Awesomenauts because they already have LoL and DOTA. You're advertising to the wrong crowd with that mindset. Much better to attract the 2D platformer fans who have never played a MOBA.

MOBA fans have a reason not to play Awesomenauts: it's not like LoL or DOTA.
Platformer fans don't have a reason not to play Awesomenauts. It's fresh and new to them.

I usually abbreviate it with ASN - AweSomeNauts.
