Blaine the Pyrotechnic
Image
Art by Pockets! Wherever you are now, thank you so much for helping me with Blaine's design!

Backstory
On the planet Ignis, Blaine is part of a race called the Salamandrites. The laws of Ignis severely punish any crimes, so most don't even think about committing any or otherwise be unlawful off-planet. Blaine was different though. Having an intense & considerably unhealthy interest in fire, he had many failed jobs as he found them too dull for his interests (or he was just rubbish at them). However, he finally found one he thought he could stick with: Mechanic at a Boilmonster-3000.

These machines control the heat in an area the size of 5 mountains using fuel known as pyroplasm. With his mechanical talents, this was a dream job for Blaine, but as he worked with it more & more, he slowly became obsessed with the machine & its fiery properties. Eventually, he became so obsessed with the machine that he set off to do something that even the least pleasant Salamandrite would never think of: steal it.

His plan was to take the Boilmonster all for himself & use it to fufil all his nastiest dreams and desires. He went at night, expecting no-one to be their, but as soon as he got hold of the off switch, staff members part of the late-night checkers club entered. Immediately, Blaine panicked & accidentally pushed the self destruct button. This explosion cost Blaine some sanity & scorched his body, but he did not leave empty handed, taking the Boilmonster's prime core with him.

Once Blaine had fled his home planet (with an immeasurable price on his head) he hid his burns inside a fireproof hazmat suit & figured out how to use the core he "took"; re-modify it into a gadget heavy flamethrower. Blaine now battles along side the Awesomenauts for a living, enjoying his newfound power by satisfying his pyromania.

Skill One: Oil Spray
Sometimes, things just don't burn to Blaine's satisfaction, so he drenches them in the fuel he uses to make them fry better.
Slow: 10%
Extra Flamethrower DoT per Stack: 25%
Extra Heat-Seekers DoT per Stack: 75 (117.75)
Extra Heat-Seekers DoT duration: 5 sec
Oil Spray extra DoT duration/time to stack: 4.5 sec
Slow Duration: 2 sec
Oil Spray charge regen time: 4.5 sec
Range: 6
Cooldown: 1.5 sec

Info: Oil Spray is Blaine's right-click ability. Blaine sprays a shower of Oil spray that will hit every enemy it touches. The large Oil Spray projectile will arc after a fair distance. Oil Spray stacks up to 3 times max. You can hold 3 Oil Spray charges that replenish after 4.5 seconds. With 2 or 3 charges, you can use another charge after 1.5 seconds. The cooldown also affects the charge replenishing time. While the slow duration is 2 seconds, the extra DoT & time you have to apply another stack is 4.5 seconds.
If the enemy is already affected by Flamethrower's DoT, then get's hit by Oil Spray, the extra DoT will be applied to the remaining damage (this works for every increasing stack). If Oil Spray runs out while the extra Flamethrower DoT is still in effect, the extra DoT will go away. Heat-Seekers DoT duration outlasts the Oil Spray affect. Only 1 Heat-Seeker DoT can effect a single enemy at a time, although the DoT can be refreshed by other Heat-Seekers. Flamethrower's DoT, Heat-Seekers' DoT and any other Blaine related DoT stack with each-other.

Quote:

Bounces on Surfaces Yes
Bounce Amount 1
Range +1.2
COST 220
----
IV. Glue Gloop (1/2)
Leaves a puddle of oil when Oil spray hits a surface, slowing down enemies that stay in it. It can be ignited to create a brief pillar of fire, destroying the puddle.

Duration 2.5s
Damage +125 (196.25)
Slow +35%
Slow Duration 0.2
COST 235

Damage per Stack +40 (62.8)

Skill Two: Heat-Seekers
It greatly annoys Blaine when he can't gets close enough to burn his enemies, so he sends out his 2nd favourite method of destruction: Heat seeking explosives!
Missile duration: 2.5 sec
Missile speed: 7.4
Damage: 300 (471)
Priming time: 0.75
Explosion size: 4.6
Cooldown: 12.5 sec

Info: Heat-Seekers is Blaine's middle-click ability. Blaine releases 2 missiles that will seek the nearest enemy Nauts and chase them. When the button is pressed, Blaine will launch both missiles in the direction he is aiming. One will be launched further than the other. After priming time the missiles will chase the closest Naut to it. If no Nauts are nearby, they will roam randomly in the direction launched. The missiles will not explode on contact with terrain (just bouncing off it), neutrals or enemy droids, but the latter two will take damage from the missile's explosion. The Heat-Seekers still explode when their duration is up.

Quote:
UPGRADES
I. Clusterlets (1/2)
Upon exploding, Heat-Seekers will spawn cluster bombs that explode on contact with enemies and surfaces.

Cluster Amount 2 per missile
Priming Time 0.25s

II. Nitro-glycerine Canisters(1/2)

IV. Mortar Cannons (1/1)
Allows both Heat-Seekers to be fired independently, giving the ability charges and each missle its own cooldown.

Ability Charges 2
Heat-Seekers Missile Cooldown 13 sec
COST 250
----
V. Phantom 3000 Tech (1/1)
Allows Heat-Seekers to travel through terrain, at the cost of speed.

Terrain Phasing Yes
Speed Debuff -0.6
COST 200
----
VI. Napalm Warheads (1/2)
Increases the explosion size and adds a DoT effect to Heat-Seekers.

DoT +50 (78.5)
DoT Duration 5s
Explosion Size +0.6
COST 200

Jump: Thrusters
Minimum Jump Height: 6
Maximum Jump Height: 13 (16 with Space Air Max)

Info: Thrusters is the way Blaine jumps. Pressing the jump button will make Blaine perform a simple, but short jump. Holding the jump button however, will build up the power for a very powerful jump. Blaine will reach full power after 1.6 seconds. You can hold the jump indefinitely. You can start charging Thrusters in the air, but if you've already jumped, then the jump won't work until Blaine is on the ground. Unlike other jumps which activates when you press the button, Blaine's jump activates once you let go of the button.

His backstory creeps me out. He's like a pyromaniac masochist psychokiller. That's pretty heavy.

I do like the way his abilities work with each other though, like a combo :3 I feel like the missiles could be more snare focused to help him get into range, or possibly make the missiles create a shockwave of deflection or something. As simple damage they're a lot like a more powerful form of Clunk's homing upgraded auto-attacks.

Yeah, the backstory is kind of creepy, but I got to start somewhere!

The idea with the missiles is that they are supposed to kill enemies that are fleeing from you when they get away from your oil and flamethrower. I see how it sounds like a powerful version of Clunk's regular attack, but it should be different enough & seeing its a skill, it should be acceptable. If I changed it to be a snare, that combined with Oil Spray's slow would make it really difficult to avoid death & I don't see an advantage for Blaine if it was something like deflection. I do appreciate your concern though & I like your own Naut ideas. :)

I've modified what parts of Blaine's Backstory say to make it less creepy.

Changelog
Oil Spray reworked slightly.
Instead of 3 slow moving globs of oil, which was too similar to Gnaw's Acid Spit, it actually spays the oil in a cone in the direction Blaine uses it. The skill also now has a range of 6.

Ok then. :D

Blaine looks like a salamander inside a team coloured hazard suit. His flamethrower would be one like, for example, Dingodile's from Crash Bandicoot, but it would have a jet thruster & missile launcher attached. He would be tall & his tail would come out of his suit.

Happy Designing.
