I'm SURE it's too late to implement this, but it would def be great!

First off, I'm confident that the controls will work fine with the game.

However, I prefer using both analog sticks for aiming...you can't aim diagonally and shoot without moving, as far as I can tell from watching pretty much EVERY Awesomenauts video around :-p

So maybe you could make an option to map the 4 buttons to the triggers?

Example:
L1: Fire
R1: Jump
L2: First ability
R2: Second ability

Huh I would have expected the control to be fully customizable, don't see any reason why they couldn't be.
